SAN FRANCISCO BICYCLE PLAN FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT
GENERAL INFORMATION: The SFMTA worked with the San Francisco Planning Department, Office of Major Environmental Analysis (MEA) and a consultant team to perform an environmental review of the Bicycle Plan in response to the California Superior Court Peremptory Writ of Mandate. The City cannot implement any bicycle-related facility improvements which could result in a physical streetscape change (striping bike lanes and shared-lane "sharrows", installing bicycle racks and signs) until a full environmental review of the Bicycle Plan has been completed and the City and County of San Francisco receives clearance from the California Superior Court. January 13, 2009: Public comments on the San Francisco Bicycle Plan Draft Environmental Impact Report closed at 5:00 p.m. November 26, 2008: 2007.0347E: San Francisco Bicycle Plan Draft Environmental Impact Report Released Questions about the environmental review of the Bicycle Plan should be directed to the San Francisco Planning Department, Office of Major Environmental Analysis, Debra Dwyer, at 415-575-9031. Public comments on the DEIR were accepted until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Written comments should have been addressed to Bill Wycko, Environmental Review Officer, San Francisco Planning Department, 1650 Mission Street, Suite 400, San Francisco, CA 94103. Comments received will be responded to in a Summary of Comments and Responses document. March 26, 2008: 80 people attended an open house sponsored by the SFMTA regarding the status of the City’s Bicycle Plan. City staff reviewed the City’s “transit first” policy, goals of the Bicycle Plan, as well as the status of the bicycle plan injunction and the process for completion and approval of its environmental review. Staff also informed the public of additional input opportunities, including four neighborhood meetings in May and June that would focus on proposed bicycle route network improvement projects. Specific questions were raised related to bicycle safety and enforcement, bicycle network connections, vehicle lane reductions, and parking impacts. Download the City’s presentation (PDF, 1.8 MB).
